Precautions for the use of industrial calcium chloride desiccant

Mar 13,2025

Calcium chloride desiccant has strong hygroscopicity and should be stored in dry and sealed environment to prevent it from absorbing moisture in the air and becoming invalid before use.

The use of industrial calcium chloride desiccant requires attention to the following aspects:

Storage and Handling

Calcium chloride desiccant has strong hygroscopicity and should be stored in dry and sealed environment to prevent it from absorbing moisture in the air and becoming invalid before use. The storage place should be kept cool and ventilated, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperature environment.

During transportation, it should be held gently and put down lightly to prevent the package from being broken, which will lead to the calcium chloride desiccant being exposed to the air and absorbing moisture in advance, affecting the use effect.

Use environment

Calcium chloride desiccant is suitable for a variety of industrial environments, but it should be avoided to be used in acidic environment, because calcium chloride will react with acid and reduce its drying performance. At the same time, it should not be used in the environment containing a large amount of ammonia, calcium chloride will form a complex with ammonia, thus reducing the effective composition of the desiccant.

The dosage of desiccant should be reasonably determined according to the specific drying demand and space size. Generally speaking, in a relatively sealed space, 1 - 2 kg of calcium chloride desiccant can be placed in each cubic meter of space to achieve better drying effect.

Packaging selection

Selection of suitable packaging materials is crucial. Usually use packaging that is breathable but prevents calcium chloride from leaking, such as non-woven or paper-plastic composite bags. This will allow the moisture in the air to fully contact the calcium chloride, but also prevent the desiccant from becoming liquid after absorbing the moisture and flowing out, polluting the articles to be dried or the environment.

Replacement and treatment

After the moisture absorption of calcium chloride desiccant reaches saturation, it should be replaced in time to ensure the continuous drying effect. To judge whether the desiccant is invalid or not, you can observe its appearance, such as turning into paste or block, and the weight is obviously increased, which means that the desiccant has basically lost the ability of moisture absorption.

For the failed calcium chloride desiccant, it can not be discarded freely, because it may contain some impurities and harmful substances after absorbing moisture. Generally, it can be regenerated by heating and drying, but if the desiccant is seriously polluted and cannot be regenerated and utilized, it should be properly disposed of in accordance with the local environmental protection requirements to prevent pollution to the environment.

Safety Protection

Calcium chloride has certain irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, when using it, protective gloves, goggles and other protective articles should be worn to avoid direct contact with calcium chloride desiccant. If it accidentally touches the skin, it should be flushed with plenty of water immediately; if it enters the eyes, it should be flushed with water as soon as possible and seek medical treatment in time.

In the process of use, avoid calcium chloride desiccant dust flying, prevent inhalation of dust on the respiratory tract. If it is used in poorly ventilated environment, it should be equipped with corresponding ventilation equipment to maintain air circulation.
