Glucose production process and applications

Mar 13,2025

Calcium chloride desiccant has strong hygroscopicity and should be stored in dry and sealed environment to prevent it from absorbing moisture in the air and becoming invalid before use.

Industrial glucose is an important chemical raw material, which has a wide range of applications in many fields. The following is a detailed introduction about industrial glucose:

Basic Information

Chemical name: Glucose

Chemical formula: C6H12O6

Appearance: White crystalline powder or granule

Solubility: easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether.

Production method

Industrial production of glucose mainly adopts starch hydrolysis method. The specific process is to mix starchy raw materials (such as corn starch, tapioca starch, etc.) with water to form starch emulsion, and then add an appropriate amount of catalyst (such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc.), and carry out the hydrolysis reaction at a certain temperature and pressure. After the reaction is completed, industrial glucose products are obtained through neutralization, filtration, concentration, crystallization and other processes. In recent years, there is also the process of producing glucose by enzymatic hydrolysis of starch, which has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high product purity and low environmental pollution.

Application fields

Water treatment: as a water quality stabilizer, industrial glucose has obvious coordinating effect, which is suitable for various formulations such as molybdenum, silicon, phosphorus, tungsten, nitrite, etc. Due to the influence of coordinating effect, the corrosion inhibition effect is greatly improved. At the same time, it can also be used as a nutrient source for microorganisms, promoting the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, thus improving the treatment efficiency of sewage treatment system.

Chemical raw material: it is an important raw material for the production of many chemical products such as gluconic acid, gluconate, sorbitol and so on. These products are widely used in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, detergent and other industries. For example, calcium gluconate is a commonly used calcium supplement, and sodium gluconate can be used as concrete admixture and metal surface treatment agent.

Food industry: It can be added to food as sweetener, nutritional fortifier and so on. It has relatively low sweetness and mild taste, and can be used to adjust the sweetness and flavor of food. In bread, pastries and other foods, glucose can also be used as a nutrient source for yeast to promote yeast fermentation, so that the food has a better fluffiness and texture.

Pharmaceutical industry: In the pharmaceutical field, industrial glucose can be used to prepare oral rehydration salts, injections and other drugs. It is an important source of energy for the human body, can quickly replenish the energy needed by the body, and is often used to treat hypoglycemia, dehydration and other diseases. In addition, glucose can also be used as a drug carrier for the preparation of new drug dosage forms such as slow-release formulations and targeted formulations.

Market Price

The market price of industrial glucose is affected by raw material price, production process, market supply and demand and other factors. Taking March 2025 as an example, the price of industrial glucose is around 2500-4000 RMB/ton.

Precautions

When storing industrial glucose, it should be placed in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place, avoiding moisture and direct sunlight.

Keep it away from fire and heat source to prevent fire or explosion.

Store it separately from oxidizers, acids and other substances, and do not mix them to avoid chemical reactions.

In the process of use, wear appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves, masks, etc., to avoid skin contact and inhalation of dust.
